DAY 2 | LES ANDELYS
Uncover the Château Gaillard, as it has the history of being the former stronghold of Richard the Lionheart. Enjoy our morning tour around the castle, situated on the chalk hills above the Seine. Or our guests may prefer to go for more adventure and hike from the banks of the Seine, admiring the views along the way. Or our guests may wish to explore the landscape on two wheels, joining a guided bike tour through the town of Les Andelys. Overall all guests will be able to enjoy the beautiful Seine Valley's white cliffs and centuries-old architecture.
DAY 3 | LE HAVRE
There are several different choices of excursions, both during the morning and afternoon, depending on your interests. You can choose between a full-day tour to the seaside town of Honfleur, renowned for its picturesque harbour, and for being an inspirational site for Impressionist painters; or enjoy a half-day trip here that includes a Market visit and free time. You also can split your day between Honfleur and the delicious Pays d'Auge region of Normandy, where apple cider, Calvados and pommeau outrank French wine. This excursion includes a scenic coastal drive through Beaumont-en-Auge and Pont l'Eveque with a Calvados tasting. During the afternoon, you can join a city tour of the UNESCO-designated Le Havre. Alternatively, you have the choice to visit Etretat, where nature has carved fabulous shapes out of the white cliffs and was the inspiration for many Impressionist artists. Should you wish to get more active, you can go on a bike tour to Le Havre
DAY 4 | CAUDEBEC-EN-CAUX – NORMANDY BEACHES
.On the day for you will discover the Normandy region and all its history; there is a selection of one of three tours. Option 1: Those who wish to go to the American sector of the Normandy beaches, you will be able to visit the cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, Omaha Beach, the WWII artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer and also the village of Arromanches. In Arromanches you will visit the remains of the floating harbour used during the WWII landings can be seen. Option 2: Those who prefer can tour the Gold an Juno beaches within the British and Canadian sectors, where you will visit the Ranville Cemetery, the Pegasus Bridge, the Canadian cemetery at Beny-sur-Mer, the WWII museum in Courseulle and finally the village of Arromanches.
Option 3: For those who require an alternative experience, spend your afternoon on the Route des Abbayes. Journey back in time with the interactive exhibits and vessels at the Seine museum, or explore the Romanesque Normandy Abbey Route will take you to the historic abbeys of the region.
DAY 5 | ROUEN
On day five you will spend the morning enjoying medieval Rouen with a choice of three alternative excursions. Option 1: A walking tour exploring the imposing Notre Dame Cathedral, painted many times by Monet. See the square where Joan of Arc was martyred, as well as the medieval Quarter and Great Clock. Option 2: Those who wish to be active expolorers, can either join a biking or hiking tour around the city. While later in the day you will gain the chance to either explore the Jewish area of Rouen; or go on the "Tastes of Normady" tour. The "Tastes of Normady" tour is a treat to the delicious flavours of the region, includig chocolate, macaron, Norman cheese and cider.
DAY 6 | VERNON
On day six wake up in Vernon, where you will have a choice from three excursions. Option 1: Visit Claude Monet's home and gardens in Giverny. You will immediately recognise the images depicted and immortalised within Monet's most famous paintings, including water lilies, Japanese bridges and graceful willow trees. Furthermore, you will be given access to wander around his famous gardens and home, where he once lived. Option 2: Enjoy an escorted tour of the regal 18th-century Château de Bizy palace, exploring the inspired by the opulence of Versailles, palace and gardens. Option 3: For those who prefer to be more active, you can explore on guided bike tours, taking in the beautiful French countryside.
DAY 7 | CONFLANS – PARIS
On day seven, you will visit Château Malmaison, the former residence of Napoleon and also Josephine Bonaparte. Option 1: On a tour you will learn what life was like for Bonapartes and how Josephine endeavoured to transform this large estate into "Europe's most beautiful and curious garden ". Option 2: A short travel to Auberge Ravoux, the last home of the artist Vincent van Gogh, within the heart of Auvers-sur-Oise. Where his sprit still wanders in his former attic rooms at the Ravoux Inn. Van Gough completed more than 70 piecies of work in a mere 70 days, before his death. Option3: Enjoy pedalling through the city of Conflans. Then later in the day, we will set sail for Paris.
DAY 8 | PARIS – DISEMBARKATION
Bid farewell Paris, the AmaLyra and its crew, as its time to prepare for your flight home.
